Sheri Peters (Sheri Creates Art)

Sheri Peters is an abstract mixed media painter inspired by the beauty of nature. Using intuition with bold brush strokes she seeks to paint abstract images, looking for the essence of her subject. Seeking to showcase the beauty of the natural world and connecting art lovers with their sense of time and place images emerge from the canvas as if in a dream. Influences behind her work include European artists MC Escher, Gustav Klimt and Salvador Dali. Drawn to the idea behind surrealism, her intuition is seen through repetitive pattern and line-work emerge from the canvas as abstracts, nature, people, and animals broken down into simple shapes, repetitive patters and suggestions. Hoping to capture the essence of a subject through a variety of added mediums, shapes, glazes Peters paints her own collage papers and builds her painting up layer by layer, constantly adjusting the composition until her intuition tells her it is finished. This process can take months or even years until something is truly finished. Peters teaches workshops, inspiring others to create artwork from a space of childlike wonder as she says the reason behind the artwork is because it connects her with an emotional part of her that would otherwise be buried under the daily grind. Her creative studio is in Gibsons BC and when she’s not there you can find her walking the beach and nature trails watching the birds, bears, coyotes and other critters with her dog. She explains, these quiet times of reflection help feed her creativity, spirit and soul as she connects with the solitude of life.
