At the beginning of the 20th Century, in the so-called "Golden Twenties", a generation of Germans who had lived through World War One experienced for the first time some prosperity. This led for some to a whirlwind of parties and soirees. Shaped by the hardship of the first World War, some dancers in the Weimar Republic were breaking down barriers and living wild, glamorous and hedonistic lives. In this series, I have attempted to capture both the glamour and the fragility of this window of hope in German history, between the war and the depression and what followed. This is Anita, a dancer. 36" x 48" Acrylic on canvas.
