Medium: oil on stretched canvas
The painting measures 11x14 inches and is done on a stretched canvas. It sits in a stunning mahogany coloured 3 ½ inch frame. The quality artist oil paints were applied to the larch with a palette knife giving a luscious finish. Larches! What amazing trees. They are the only coniferous tree that lose their needles in the Fall, and what a beautiful sight it is when the high mountain valleys fill with blazing yellow, orange, and gold, briefly before the needles drop. West of Radium Hot Springs, BC, there are several forestry roads that lead to these stunning valleys. This is up the McDonald Creek FSR. We spent several hours taking in the awesome sight of these fabulous trees. I singled out one to take centre stage in this bright painting, but there were thousands that could have vied for equal attention.
