One Breath-Enso (on black stretched canvas 16 by 20) If the circle is the symbol of perfection, wholeness and infinity, so the Enso is its spontaneous counterpart. Why spontaneous, one may asks, and we say because the Enso does not aim at the circle viz. its perfection of mathematical circularity perse, but rather the charm of its curved boundaries, so said. Particularly here-as the circle is not closed perse- it suggests a free movement between opposites: the in and the out, in front and behind, above and below. In addition, the articulated ink- markings and the empty rice-papered white are enticing opposites, hence they unite. And are these motions and emotions viz. shape, form, space and place not considered elements of articulated freedom? In addition, ‘color-markings’ are conspicuous by their absence, enhancing the black- and-white modalities of contrasting textures , intensities and tones. As such, the plain ‘B&W’ are the ultimately simple references for the marriage of pure opposite… no in-between ‘marriage-maker’ need apply. Again, as such, theparadoxical nature of simplicity and profundity are brilliant evoked in the simple yet highly sophisticated ensoic design. And may our audience understand that the acumen to paint an ‘effortlessly-looking’ ink-Enso is not achievedovernight. Indeed, like the Japanese monks of old, we spend much time in calming our mind and in the end allowed our brush to express what no words cannot say.. And is that not the wonder of touching Reality, the wonder of Satori, the state of the Real? Once again, Enjoy yourmeditation on the one- breath-hitoiki*suggesting uno-spiro,* *the ultimate mode of the inexplicable world ofboth work and rest, again, suggested by the Enso, at best! *Japanese, ‘One-breath ‘ **Esperanto 16"x20"x3/4" on Black Stretched Canvas, Acrylic Paint, Created On February 1st, 2025
