ORCA

ORCA This is image was the very last one I took on a 8 hour whale watching trip between Campbell River and Telegraph Cove. It was one of those days where I just couldn't get the rhythm of the orca. If I thought they were going to appear to my left well they would pop up behind me. Needless to say I captured many water shots. It was almost the end of our trip when a small pod of orcas were swimming near the shoreline by Sayward. Suddenly, the big male orca in the group broke away from the pod and was beelining it straight for us. He wasn't sauntering up slowly he was coming full steam ahead! I don't think any of us were breathing as we watched him come closer and closer. The guide shut the motor off. Our hearts were all a flutter and beating fast as he approached the zodiac we were in. Then just as it seemed like he was going to touch the boat he turned and swam underneath us! When he came up on the other side I got this shot!! Such an exciting moment in time! This is one of my all time favourite images! Orca is 45" x 30" x 1.5" and is printed on a canvas gallery wrap with mirrored edge on 1.5" stretcher bars and comes ready to hang.
