| Friendly Tulips with Red Imported from Turkey during the Middle Ages, the tulip symbolized wealth and beauty in the homes and palaces of the Sultans. When introduced to the Netherlands, it became an exotic luxury, cherished by the aristocracy during the Golden Age of Renaissance Holland. For us, as Dutch-Canadian artists, do we not admire the tulip’s elegant simplicity—its emergence from a buried bulb, rising on a slender stem toward the light? Such is Art: the ability to see truth and beauty, the sacred Form, in even the simplest aspects of nature. Indeed, our ‘Talking Tulip,’ whether potted in a vase or standing side by side, resonates with the heart. Om Tat Sat—may we be enlivened by THAT!
