Karen Cummings
Visual Arts
I call myself a Textile Artist. I use fabric to paint on canvas, fabrics that mostly I have hand printed, to create bold abstract gallery style ready to hang art.
Everything is one-of-kind authentic work made in my studio, when I'm not out enjoying the beauty of British Columbia.
My work is inspired by colour. The grey, tan, burgundy of a winter dessert landscape or the indigo, lime, fawn of spring sprouts.
Textiles hold emotions. A colour can remind you of a favorite article of clothing, long lost. Or transport you back into your grandmothers kitchen. The visceral tactile quality of fabric makes for an amazing art medium.
I hope you will enjoy my work as much as I love using textiles to create art.
