Rachel Nixon is a Vancouver-based photographer who approaches the everyday with a fresh eye to find both beauty and unusual scenes in the familiar.
In her fine art practice, Rachel uses techniques such as multiple exposure, fragmentation and abstraction. Her urban exploration and street photography seeks out scenes that others may miss and looks for humour in daily life. Throughout her work runs a deep appreciation for colour and structure.
A long-time passionate amateur photographer, Rachel recently decided to devote herself fully to visual art and enrolled in the VanArts professional photography program, graduating with honours in September 2019.
Her work has been exhibited in galleries in the US, Canada and Europe, and has received a number of awards including the renowned 14th Julia Margaret Cameron Awards (Abstract category).
Before moving full-time into photography, Rachel had a successful 20-year career as a digital journalist and news executive in the UK, US and Canada for organizations including the BBC, CBC and Microsoft.
A British-Canadian citizen, Rachel holds a first-class honours degree from the University of Oxford in Modern Languages and Literature. She loves to travel and is passionate about many forms of art. She finds inspiration in the urban and natural beauty of Vancouver, where she calls home.
